PCM4204 - TDM 8Channle input using two devices

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM4204

Hi all,

Would you mind if we ask PCM4204?

<Question>
Our customer only can use 1 TDM line and they would like to get 8-channle data using two PCM4204 Devices(4CH+4CH).
So, in this case, is it possible to implement using Sub-Fram as Figure7 on the datasheet P20?
Could you let us know it?

Kind regards,

Hirotaka Matsumoto

  • Hi Hirotaka,

Yes, getting 8-channels is possible. Just set up the devices like you see in Figure 7. Make one device sub-frame 0 and the other sub-frame 1.Figure 4 in the datasheet shows what the output data should look like depending on whether it is short frame or long frame.

Does your customer have two PCM4204s? Have they tried getting 8-channels out yet? If yes, do they have more specific questions?

    Regards,

Thank you for your prompt reply!
    Ok we got it.

We'd like to confirm one thing.
By setting of Sub−Frame 0 or Sub−Frame 1 like as Figure7, is from Slot 1 to  Slot8 like as Figure4 automatically assinged without other setting, isn't it?

And then, our customer is in the development stage and  in the conceptual stage.
So, if you have some advice or advantage about two PCM4204s, could you let us know?

    Kind regards,

    Hirotaka Matsumoto

  • Hi Hirotaku,

The part outputs the channels in a contiguous manner. The sub frame select just chooses between the first 4 channels or the last 4 channels depending on which sub frame you choose.
