Using PCM5310 stand alone?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM5310, PCM3168

Hello,

I am looking at using a PCM5310 codec in place of a current system that uses an AD1938 codec. I require three ADCs and 2 DACs. An ADAU1446 DSP is configured as master and the system has no on-board uC. Given the numerous registers that can be configured on the PCM5310, is it even possible to use it without a uC? I simply want to pass the three ADC channels to the DSP and then pass two channels of audio from the DSP to the DACs. This is quite simple to implement with the AD1938 codec, but it is very costly.

Thanks,

ACW

  • HI ACW,

This part does not have the ability to be hardware controlled, but it seems the ADAU1446 DSP has an I2C/SPI port which is what could be used to control the PCM5310.

One recommendation for staying with hardware control, could be the PCM3168, hardware controlled and relatively low cost, but this is a large input/output part.
