TLV320AIC1106 transmit signal levels.

Data sheet states that for "Differential, MIC Amp 1 configured for 23.5 dB gain":-

  • Transmit reference-signal level (0dB) is 88mVpp max
  • Overload-signal level (3 dBm0) is 124mVpp max

I have the gain configured as 23.8 dB using resistor values of 511k and 33k, and linear mode selected, but find that an input amplitude of 60 mVpp differential (930 mVpp differential at pin 9 wrt pin 12) is large enough to use the full 13 bit output range. A larger input amplitude produces wild output values for the peak sample points.

Is it expected/typical that my maximum useable input signal level is so far below the (admittedly maximum) signal levels in the data sheet?

  • Hello Christopher,

Welcome to E2E!, The AIC1106 is a quite old device and we are not recommending it for new designs. Why don't you take a look to our newer codecs like AIC3204? this is a very low power and high performance audio codec.
