MEMS Microphone with PCM4204

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM4202, PCM4204, TLV320ADC3101, TLV320AIC33, TLV320AIC34

Hello,

I'm working on a project to evaluate the use of digital MEMS microphones.

At the moment we use an stereo audio codec as interface.

However our goal is to use 4 channels. I found the PCM4202 with

DSD inputs. I read that DSD is equivalent to PDM that is used my the MEMS

Is it possible to use these microphones with the PCM4202?

  • Hello,

The DSD input data for the PCM4204 must be from a 1-bit delta-sigma modulator with 50% modulation index. The decimation filter inside the PCM4204 will apply a fixed 2x scaling factor to the input data, which from my experience has made the PCM4204 incompatible with some MEMS digital microphones. You will need to confirm that the MEMS mic output data is compatible with the first sentence in my reply.

You may also want to consider using a device like the TLV320ADC3101, TLV320AIC33, or TLV320AIC34, which include support for digital microphone interfacing.
