LM4865 Power Amplifier

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM4865

Hi,

We're tinkering with the LM4865 Power Amplifier IC.

So far, no real problems, it works as stated on the datasheet.

But we do notice one peculiarity -

We're driving the Volume Control input with DC derived from a 1K pot wired between +V and ground.

We can see that the DC voltage rises and falls smoothly with pot rotation, but the output level of the

amplifier appears to change in discrete steps, not a smooth continuous change.

Has anyone else experienced this, and is it normal for this IC?

Thanks for any feedback -

SBH

  • Hi Steve,

Welcome to E2E and thank you for your interest in our products!

The volume control response it's not linear, you can take a look at Figure 17 at Typical Performance Characteristic section in the D/S.
You can also look for the DC Voltage Volume Control section in the D/S, Figure 29 shows a more detailed information for the stepped response.
