tpa6140 IC with NO 0.4 mm BGA pitch housing available ?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA6140A2, TPA6130A2

We searched for a low power audio stereo headphone amplifier and finally the TPA6140 has been my favorite.

Unfortunately it comes only in a 0.4 mm pitch BGA package, which requires expensive HDI (high densitiy interconnect) PCB.

Does anybody know an IC, with the performance data of a TPA6140 with volume control, which is in a bigger package allowing standard PCB technology ???

  • Hi Uwe,

I would suggest you to take a look to our TPA6130A2, this device shares similar characteristics with the TPA6140A2  and comes in a WQFN package.

  • Hello Diego,

Thanks for your answer. Currently this is plan B. But we have 4 mA quiescence current verus 1.2 mA quiescence current. We will fix that in software, so when we are not talking the audio will be in shutdown. Very intersting has been the comparision of Power Dissipation with 2.5 Volts on page 13 of the 6130 datasheet, versus the power dissipation of the 6140 (figure21). The 6130 needs for 50 mW at 2.5 Volts around 150 mW, while the 6140 needs almost the same 150mW. The advantage of the 6140 is at higher voltages. With 5 Volts the 6130 burns for the same 50 mW half a watt, while the 6140 will be nearly the same.
Can you confirm my datasheet interpretation ?
If yes I will go with the 6130.

    Have a nice day

    Cheers

  • Hi Uwe,

You are right in almost all your comments. I would like to clarify that the plot of the TPA6140 Pt vs Po graph was taken with 3.6 V power supply as indicated at the top of the page.
