TPA3118D2 Minimum Over current trip point

Dear all.

Do you have specification or data of minimum "Over current trip point"?
(>6A, >6.5A, or >7A ?)

Regards,
PAN-M

  • Hi PAN-M,

Unfortunately we do not have this data as it will depend on the die temperature during the over current event as well as the components, Q-factor, and cutoff frequency of the output filter. For example, an inductive filter will have different losses than ferrite bead filter and therefore will change available current seen at the output before the OC trip point.

My recommendation would be to use a burst input signal with your setup and increase the amplitude until OC shutdown while monitoring the output current with a current probe. We have good results with the method using 1KHz signal with a burst pattern of 5 out of every 100 cycles are very large.

This is necessary because with a steady state signal, the output power will be beyond the spec of the part and the amp will quickly overheat before the OC trip point is reached. This also will remove temperature dependence since the burst will keep the part cool.

    Best Regards,
    Matt
  • Thank you.
    We will measure it.
