PP-SALB-EVM - Hardware Checks, Unable to Playback Audio

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM3070

Audio Champs,

Working through the Characterization process I ran into "Unable to playback Audio" a few times during the HW Checks.  It only seems to happen sometimes.

  • I managed to resolve this after a bit of trial an errors.

In the Windows's Sound-->Recording Menu (Right click the speaker in the system tray and go to Recording.)

    1. Ensure that the "5-USB-AudioEVM" is set to the Default Device for recording

    2. Ensure that the Levels is set to 100 (this can also be accomplished by maxing your volume on the speaker in the windows bottom right tray)

    3. Ensure that the Default Format (in the Advanced tab) is set to "2 Channel, 16bit, 44100 Hz".

The same should be done in the Window's Sound-->Playback Menu.

  • Hi Michael,

  • Mike:
I had a working system then I getting error for no playback. The Windows speaker volume level is maximum and the sample rate is correct. Windows shows it can play audio and I see the I2S stream going to U3 (PCM3070 CODEC) but no audio out to audio power amp. I see one I2C command byte sent to CODEC when Learning Board GUI "connect" is selected but no I2C traffic with "disconnect". It seems U3 is dead. Any other tests to confirm before placing IC?
