Host controller for AIC3254/AIC3253?

Hello

Can someone please walk me through a suitable MCU for AIC3254/AIC3253 audio codec?

From the codec's eval kit, a controller with 32kB mem with I2C/SPI is enough.

Is MSP430G2744 suitable? It has 1kB RAM, 32kB flash, 16MHz and 1 I2C, SPI each.

The codec would not be used for digital audio. Preferring to keep it simple.

One more thing. Since there isn't much of know-how on this from my end, I would prefer outsourcing the development. Generally speaking, what should I know before committing someone to take the task?

Like 1) Would I also require a separate compiler/development board for the MCU, which would then get later soldered to the codec PCB? Or I can straight way use USB connection on the codec PCB to a PC and then initialize the MCU from their for the first time. And then obviously, download the codec code from Purepath.

Please help before I start talking to a developer.

Thanks.

  • Hi, Arjun,

I see you've cross posted this to our low power microcontroller forum which might be a better place to get answers. If they can't help you, let me know.

  • Hey

Two guys replied in that forum, Evan Wakefield  and Ryan Brown1. Ryan said host controller wont be required. Which is strange, then how can make it work and configure all those fantastic algorithms.

And Evan suggested this would be a better place to get some guidance.

So will you be able to help me out?

I just want to use that codec for production. Even though, I would prefer handing out the development task to a third party, it is very important to know specifically about TI development process for these kind of chips. Please help me out here in understanding a good picture of how and what exactly is required to work with this codec to take it towards a production level. Please take AIC3253 as an example. I understand that it allows one stereo jack and one mic input and only a single stereo/mono output. Which is basic and all I need at this level.

    Thanks.
