PCM3070 frequency responce using EVM

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM3070, PCM5142, PCM5242

Hello

My customer is using PCM3070, but they hope flatten frequency responce for next model.

Here I attach the PCM3070 EVM _ frequency responce which is  fs=44.1K below.

Customer says WM8998 (CODEC w/miniDSP) is our competitor, and they are evaluating .....

*** Need your help ***

Please advise how to improve this. Post-filter is recommended? ( Ihad already said it  customer,  )

Otherwise, do you have another recommended CODEC with mini DSP ( fs=192KHz max ) whose freq. responce is better ?

*************************

In this 2weeks, they will decide the solution.

Please advise soon.

Best Regards

  • Hello

I did not got your responce yet, but  my customer says my suggestion :post-filter,  is not smart, and they can not accept that .

My Customer is now evaluating WM8998 for next year model because its frequecy responce is  so flat  compared with PCM3070

    , as per customer's evaluation.

I will suggest customer  to use PCM5142 ; DAC with miniDSP in place of PCM3070.

    ** Need your Help **

However, I could not find frequency responce of  PCM5142  in the data sheet and also EVM user's guide.

Would you please send me the PCM5142 frequency responce where : fs=44.1KHz,  within 2days ?

    ***************

Customer hope flat responce  as 20-20KHz at fs=44.1KHz  from DAC output ( i.e. ADC- miniDSP( BQ filter is off course, All path)-DAC output).

Customer will decide the miniDSP for their 2016 model  by next Tuesday Dec15 and the threat is lose our biz.

Sorry to bother you, but with my best regards

  • Hi Kanji,

Sorry about the delay, I was out of office last week. The PCM3070 has a miniDSP that is capable of using programmable biquads, created in PPS to apply filters to the audio signal. I believe it would be possible to make a flat response with the use of a biquad or two. This ability would also be true for the PCM5142 or PCM5242.

  • Dear Justin san

    Thank you for your anrwer.
    It seems smart.
I will discuss with customer again.

    Thank you again
    Best Regards
