Operation in the state of no input of Xti in PCM9211

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM9211

Dear Sirs,

My customer asked to me about operation in the state of no input of Xti in PCM9211.

He want to use it as follows.

1.RX input: Undefined (= DIR unlock) → XTI input

DIR lock → XTI input stop

Because it has been described as follows in the 23 pages of the data sheet.

(I'm thinking a description of the data sheet and workarounds of the abnormal state.

Is this thinking correct?)

He thinks this method as a quality improvement measures.

”The ADC output, DOUT, maintains its previous state if the system clock stops.”

So, I have some questions.

1.Do you know whether there is a problem with the above customer configurations?

2.If there is a problem, please risk information that concern.

Best Regards,

  • Hi Yoshiki,

I will need to look into this and get back to you. I hope to have some more information for you tomorrow.

  • Hi Yoshiki,

It seems that the XTI source can be turned off with exceptions when the DIR source is locked:

Register 24h/OSCAUTO controls whether or not the internal oscillator functions while it is not required. When
using the DIR as a clock source, the XTI source is not required; thus, the internal oscillator can be switched off.
There is a constraint, however, that when the DIR wide mode is being set (for example, in 192-kHz support), the
XTI is always used. The sampling frequency calculator also requires the XTI source.

So if using wide mode with the DIR (192 kHz support) you will need the XTI source. Otherwise you will just loose the sampling rate calculator will also not work when XTI is not supplied a clock. This is with the understanding that every function in the PCM9211 that is using clocks is sourcing them from the DIR.
