TLV320DAC3101 Changing sampling frequency

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV320DAC3101

Hi

We are evaluating the TLV320DAC3101 EVM.

We want to change the sampling frequency from 44.1KHz to 96KHz.

CodecControl software is already installed and the specific register for clock configuration can be modified with no error.

But the sampling frequency (Fs) is not set as the requested value.

Hot to reflect the requested value to the Fs?

regards

  • Hi, na,

Please follow the next steps in order to configure your EVM with your desired sampling frequency:

    • Download the slac563b document. This document contains different firmware files on the image folder.
    • Open the CodecControl. On File menu, select the Update Firmware option.
    • Select one of the firmware files of the image folder. The sampling frequency is shown on the file name.
    • Disconnect the EVM.
    • Once the EVM is connected again, the CodecControl will show the selected sampling frequency.

I hope this helps you. Please let me know if you have more questions or comments.

    Best regards,
    Luis Fernando Rodríguez S.

  • Hi Luis
    Thank you for your advice.

We tried your tutorial, but we couldn't see the change yet.

    We did download the USBfirmware.
The request was 96khz and we selected "Anyrate" because the file of 96Khz was not found.

Disconnecting and connecting the EVM after updating the firmware, then we reflect the setting of clock to the specific register.

Are we missing the some steps?

  • Hi, na,

I have been testing the TLV320AIC3100EVM with the firmware that you mentioned. Unfortunately, this EVM cannot work at 96kHz. It only can work until 48kHz. So, I suggest to use the EVM with the suggested sampling frequencies of the USBfirmware folder.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Luis

    Thank you for your reply.

I want to know when to use "ANYRATE" firmware file.
    Do you have the answer?

    >Unfortunately, this EVM cannot work at 96kHz. It only can work until 48kHz.
Does this operational constraint occur due to the TAS1020B on the EVM?
    I understand your suggestion.
But if you have, could you please let me know any other solution to evaluate TLV320DAC3101 working at 96KHz?

    regards
  • Hi, na,

The ANYRATE firmware will result in a 48kHz sample rate on this EVM. It is actually the maximum frequency that this EVM support due to the TAS1020b limitations.

The codec is able to work until 192kHz. However, this EVM is not able to reach that frequency. It is limited to work until 48kHz.

  • Hi Luis-san,

    Sorry to interrupt you.
However, I have question about "ANYRATE" firmware.

According to image folder, "USB-AudioEVM0304_48KHZ.BIN" exist.
It seems that this binary file will result in 48kHz sample rate as well. So could you please tell me what is difference b/w "USB-AudioEVM0304_48KHZ.BIN" and "USB-AudioEVM0304_AnyRate.BIN" ?

    Machida
  • Hi, Machida-san,

Effectively, the AnyRate.bin file results in 48KHz sampling rate in the codec EVMs. This bin file was used in old boards to configure any other rate from 8KHz to 48KHz. The usage of this bin file in the codec EVMs will always result in 48KHz rate.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Luis-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

    Understood.
