TAS5717 Idle Power

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5717, TAS5713

Hi,

In my design I am using TAS5717 and I notice that after I initialise the PA, it starts to dissipate around 2.5 W before I start feeding any signal to it.  Looking at the datasheet it is not obvious that this is normal and of course both the IC and the output inductors get really hot.

This does not seem right so could you kindly suggest the possible cause for this?

I checked the hardware design and it seem to be as per datasheet.

  • Hi, Dalibor,

This is not a correct behavior from the amplifier, can you please provide the register configuration used as well as a capture of the output of the amplifier?. Did you followed the PCB layout from our EVM?,

    Thanks and Best Regards,

  • Thanks Diego,

The layout is of course not identical but very close to what is on the EVM kit.  Here is the listing of the settings file in case you can make any sense of it:

    Thanks again,

  • Hi Diego,
I am working with Dalibor on this.we have changed the PWM mode to Ternary and the power intake reduced. But still we are facing the noise issue. We are getting a noise output even if we did not give any input. This humming noise is there always with the same magnitude with sound also.We are using the same configuration as Dalibor posted in the above comment. We have tried to change the LC filter value but still remains same.Could please suggest some solution for this.

    Thanks in advance,
    Safeer.
  • What is the frequency of the humming noise? 120Hz. perhaps? Knowing this would help identify where the noise is coming from.
