audio amplifier selection

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV134, DRV135, DRV632, PCM5242, TPA6120A2

Dear support team,

In my design I need two stereo audio outputs of  specification : 12V rms output capable to drive 600 ohm load, 15V rms output capable to drive 150 ohm load. My audio codec is operating on 3.3V single ended voltage rail, suggest me suitable audio amplifier to meet my requirement.

Regards,

Sayantan

  • Hi Sayantan,

You could take a look at DRV134/DRV135.
There are other line drivers like DRV632 and DRV60x but these are lower voltage devices.
    I hope this helps.

  • Dear Ivan,

Can you can suggest any audio codec also? I will use DRV135 to amplify the outputs of the audio codec to meet my requirement.
    My requirements are :
    1. Two stereo audio outputs.
    2. 1st audio output- 600 ohm load, 12V rms voltage.
    3. 2nd audio output- 150 ohm load, 15V rms voltage.
    4. Audio Codec supply voltage: 3.3V or 5V is preferable.

    Regards,
    Sayantan
  • Hi Sayantan,

I think you can use one of the AIC or PCM codecs.
Is there any special feature you're looking for? How many input channels do you need? You need both digital and analog inputs?
Could you provide more details so I can give you a closer suggestion?

    Best regards,

  • Hi Ivan,

I need digital input, I will control the codec & give input from fpga.

    Sayantan
  • Hi Sayantan,

If you don't need analog input, you could take a look at the DACs.
PCM512x could be good for your application.
Please let me know if this suggestion is good for you.

  • Dear Ivan,

PCM512x is having 1.8V supply along with 3.3V supply. My board have 5,3.3 & 1.2V only, hence I selected PCM5242 & then as an amplifier I am planning to use TPA3130 as suggested in the data sheet. I think by using both this part it is possible to drive 600 ohm load at 12V rms output voltage and 150 ohm load at 15V rms output voltage. Please have a look on the data sheet & confirm, also share if you have any reference schematics for this parts. You can also suggest any other parts if you find this is not suiting my specifications.

    Best Regards,
    Sayantan
  • Hi Ivan,

I got a reference circuit in the 60th page of PCM5242 data sheet, amplifier used is TPA6120A2. Can I use this? I will change the gain of TPA6120A2 according to my need by changing resistors as described in the evaluation module of TPA6120A2.

    Regards,
    Sayantan
  • Hi Sayantan,

You can use TPA6120A2 although you may need higher than 5-V supply voltage in order to reach 12-Vrms into 600-Ohm load and 15-Vrms into 150-Ohm. I need to verify if TPA6120A2 is able to reach this output voltage at your specified supply voltage.

  • Sayantan,

Wondering if you finalized the design for this audio circuit?
