PCM4222 power supply.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM4222

I'm going to be using the PCM4222 as an ADC and I've found a power supply that one the face of it seems compatible.

The quoted AC ripple is 3mv + 0.2% peak to peak maximum.

Is this good or bad for audio applications?

  • Hi John,

This ripple will affect the op amps on the board directly, but the +4V analog supply can be derived from the +/- 15 V supply through a regulator.

To calculate the effect it will have on the audio you will need to calculate the ripple of the supply, then apply the PSRR of the op amps for the input stage. You will then also have to find the ripple rejection of the regulator and apply that to the ripple of the supply. Then finally the ADC itself has a PSRR that can be applied to the regulators output.

Once you get through all of this you should see the effect that this supplies ripple will have on the audio at each stage. You will then have to decide if this is suitable for your application.
