Do I have to design separate ground traces, even if digital and analog ground must be at the same potential?

For optimal performance, you should design separate ground planes for analog and digital ground.
Both ground planes must be connected together, ideally at one point close to the codec to avoid a ground loop, which will induce currents and therefore noise from magnetic fields caused by switching currents in the system.
