Can I use your class-D amps to drive a PA system/70Vrms/transformer?

Inherently, yes, as long as the load impedance seen by the amplifier is within its rated capability.

We have customers using our devices (both class-AB and class-D) for these types of applications.

We have seen problems with transformer saturation causing the short-circuit protection in our amplifier to trip. The attached document describes that problem in detail. Our class-D amps all have very fast-acting short-circuit protection, so transformer saturation is a problem that must be designed for. Class-AB is more immune to this as our short-circuit protection is generally slower-responding.

Please note the attached document is a DRAFT, and has not been formally released by TI. I put it out there for your consideration as-is.
