TPA2005D1 short-circuit protection

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA2005D1

Hi team,

In the Datasheet page4 of TPA2005D1, there is a following description.

(2) For the MSOP (DGN) package option, the maximum VDD should be limited to 5 V if short-circuit protection is desired.

What is the background of why VDD<5V is required for short-circuit protection?

regards,

  • Tsuji-san,

This thread has been moved to the Audio Amplifiers forum for more appropriate support.

  • Hi Shinji-san

I'm going to research about this matter, but you should take into account that it is quite difficult to find this kind of information.
I'll come back to you as soon as possible with more information.

    Best Regards

  • Hi Jose,

Do you have any update information?

    regards,

  • Shinji,

Sorry for the delay, but I have been researching how to explain this condition.
I asked to a colleague of me, who has a lot of knowledge about these kind of devices, here are some comments of my colleague:
"It is related to the reliability due to lead wire inductance in the package. When you have more inductance on the wire bonds, It would cause more ringing on the device side to V=L*di/dt effect. For a given part the di/dt would be same, and now if L increases due to package the voltage will increase.
There will be absolute maximum rating on the used components inside the device, and if we expect the voltage to cross absolute maximum, the only way to limit is to adjust the supply voltage to accommodate the extra ringing due to this effect."

  • Thank you for the response.

But I don't understand what does the ringing and short-circuit protection relashonship below?

    (2) For the MSOP (DGN) package option, the maximum VDD should be limited to 5 V if short-circuit protection is desired.
