TAS5414A default mode

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5414A, TAS5414

Hi,

I am interested in using the TAS5414A in a stand alone mode without the I2C communications.  Does the TAS5414A power up in an operational mode, or do registers have to be loaded with values?

John

  • John,

The TAS5414A does not have a stand alone mode. Future revisions within this device family may have stand alone modes, but nothing that is currently available has this feature.

If the mute pin (pin 6) is pulled up using an external resistor to 3V or higher, does this unmute the TAS5414? That is, does the mute control register simply control the analog voltage on this pin? It seems like it might, since an external pull-down resistor or FET can be used to mute the part at any time, independent on what the register settings may be.

If so, how high a voltage does pin 6 need to reach in order to fully unmute the chip? Is the 20mA source/sink limit on this pin the only constraint to avoid damage?

  • Chris,

I got fooled by the datasheet on Mute exactly like you. That pin is not supposed to be pulled, but rather be left floating with 0.33uF capacitor to ground. Otherwise, even if you may get signal out, as I did, the chip will not work properly.

    Good luck!
