Max power consumption of TAS2521

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS2521

Hello

My customer will use TAS2521 and regarding to the power/current consumption and a function, we have some questions.

Their conditions:

AVDD/DVDD/IOVDD = 1.8V

SPKVDD = 5V

SP output: 1.4W max @ 8ohm speaker

(Question)

1. Could you please tell me max power consumption and quiescent current in their condition?

I couldn't find the characteristic of Power Dissipation vs Output Power in datasheet.

1) Max power consumption : SP output 1.4W max @ 8ohm

2) Quiescent current: No input digital (I2S) data.

2. About Multifunction Pin,

They will use default setting and will not use GPIO/DOUT pin.

(Codec(MCLK),I2S(BCLK,WCLK,DIN))

Will be this pin opened or pull up or pull downed?

If it's needed pull up or pull down, how many resistor(ohm) is it needed?

  • Hi Tao,

The power consumption varies depending on the device configuration; different sections of the device can be disabled to reduce power consumption.
You will be using only the analog path? Internal LDO will be used? HPOUT will be used?
Regarding the GPIO pin, it can be left open if not used.

  • Hello Ivan,

    Thank you for reply.

I confirmed their device configuration as following.

    (a)Analog path          Not use.

    (b)Digital inputI2S)  Use.

    (c)HeadphoneHPOUT)    Not use.

    (d)GPIO                Not use.

    (e)Internal LDO         Not use

    (f)miniDSP              Not use

    (g)DAC Digital Volume   Use.

    *Audio Path

    I2S input - > Digital Volume -> DAC -> D-amp -> SP output

*They will use only DAC Digital Volume as audio processing.

Could you please tell me power(current) consumption in above condition?

(Max power consumption and Quiescent current)

  • Hello Ivan,

Would you let me know the information of power consumption?

  • Hi Tao,

There is some information regarding power consumption in the Application Reference Guide on pages 26 through 28.

  • Hello Ivan,

    Thank you for reply.

Regarding to power tune mode in reference guide(page 26-28), I have some questions.

My customer's power supply and Fs conditions are following.

    SPKVDD  5V

    IOVDD   3.3V

    DVDD    1.8V

    AVDD    1.8V

    Fs      :192kHz

    HP(headphone) Amp : Not use.

    Speaker(8ohm)   :1.4W max

    (QUESTION)

    1. About the DAC Power Consumption(page26),

I will refer following items but some conditions are different from theirs.

・ In case of their condition, how much will the consumption power be?

    (SPKVDD5V, DVDD=AVDD:1.8V, IOVDD3.3V, Fs:192kHz, HP amp: Not use.)

Or how much will it increase power consumption compared to value of table(page26) ?

    2. About the Speaker output Power Consumption(page28),

I refer following items but some conditions are different from theirs.

(A)In case of their condition, how much will the consumption power be?

    (SPKVDD5V, DVDD=AVDD:1.8V, IOVDD3.3V, Fs:192kHzSpeaker:8ohm)

Or how much will it increase power consumption compared to value of table(page28) ?

    (B) The value of table is measured with condition of no signal input.

They need power consumption at max power speaker output.(1.4W@8ohm)

When speaker output is max, how much will the consumption power be?

Or do you have characteristic of Supply Current vs Output Power? (It's like following.)
