PCM2906CEVM-U: HID does not work

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM2906CEVM-U, PCM2906C

Hi all,
My customer is trying to evaluate PCM2906CEVM-U and HID function does not work.

USB audio function works well.
When SW001 sets  to ON  from all switches off, the mute function works well.
When SW002 sets to ON from all switches off, the volume up function does not work,
and the mute function works instead of the volume up function.
When SW003 sets to ON from all switches off, the volume down function does not work,
and the mute function works instead of the volume down function.

It has been verified that each of the switches on the EVM are operating independently.

OS is Win7 32bit.

As my understanding, HID function of PCM2906C operates under the windows standard driver, doesn't it?

Could you advice on how to do the troubleshooting?

Regards,
Toshi

  • Hi Toshi,

I think this problem is related to the switches open and closed states.
Please change the state of all three switches and then try again. (The small lever of the switch should face inside the EVM board)
Please let me know if this works.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Ivan-san,
    thanks for your support..
My customer has tried to change all three switches to open or closed state, but the problem was not solved.

    Best regards,
    Toshi
  • Hi Toshi,

This is odd. Both USB audio and HID work with standard drivers.
Is it possible for you to try in another host system? or try with another EVM board?
All jumpers of CN002 are placed on the EVM board?
What voltage do you see on RA1, RA2 and RA3? Have you verified the voltage change on pin 5, 6 and 7 when the switches are activated?

    Best regards,

  • Hi Ivan-san,
    thanks for your support.

About RA1、RA2 and RA3, when SWx is ON, RAx voltage is 3.19V and when RAx is OFF、RAx voltage is 0.039V.
About the reset of questions, I will try to get the result later because they are in the summer vacation until Aug/17.

    Toshi
  • Hi Ivan-san,
    I got the results from my customer as follows;

They tried in other PCs but the result is the same as before.

In order to eliminate the influence of other drivers and other services,
I asked them to try the clean boot operation with enabling Windows AUDIO and Windows Audio
Endpoint. But the result is the same.

Currently, we do not have another EVM. So, we could not try to do it.

All jumpers of CN002 are placed on the EVM board? -> Yes.

    Best regards,
    Toshi
  • Thank you for your support.

I would like to update the results.
After receiving the new EVM, I checked the HID operation with my PC. And I confirmed the HID function worked well.
Why the customer's result is the different operation because it seems to have misunderstood the position of the switch of OFF and ON.
So, the EVM send the wrong code to the PC.

    Thanks and best regards,
    Toshi
