TAS5756 SPK-FAULT pin active low issue

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5754M, TAS5756M

Hello expert,

My customer is having issues with the TAS5754M's. TAS5756M Schematic.pdf

We are facing a problem with TAS5756 when pin SPK-FAULT active low.

Figure 1. SPK_FAULT

I've checked the DAC it works fine.

We are trying Resetting the Fault State: Mute --> Low and MCLK or WS_CLK ---> Low

Can you please tell us what is experiencing problems?

  • Hi, Trong,

The TAS5756M's fault signal SPK_FAULT is triggered when the amplifier experiences an over temperature (OTE), Over current (OCE) or DE Offset event. When the error event occurs, the amplifier enters into protection mode by putting the outputs into High Impedance, this is reported by pulling SPK_FAULT to low state. The amplifier tries to return to normal operation by starting the audio streaming again and setting SPK_FAULT high, but if the problem is still present, the amplifier will enter again into protection mode. This behavior can be seen on the SPK_FAULT capture you sent.

The error you are mentioning seems related to an over temperature, over current or DC offset event. I would recommend you to check the outputs of the amplifier (before LC filter) to verify there is no high current peaks that could overpass the over current threshold. The thermal performance of the amplifier is related to the board dissipation and output power. Is the board 2 or 4 layer?. I can't see the bottom layer of your board, but I assume it is a ground plane, is this right?.

Could you please share more information like PVDD voltage used, target power and speaker impedance used?.

    Thanks and Best Regards,
