5W Audio Amp Selection

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM386, TPA3113D2

Hi Team,

Look the attachment.  The customer has used LM386 for his design,  but there is much noise in the sound and its not much audible.

Basically his SD card and micro controller is reading tones or supporting access wave tone from SD and sending signal interns of  PWM signal to audio amplifier for generating audible sound without noise. So the customer wants to select another audio amp.
His requirements are as follows:

1. The operating voltage is 8V.

2. The type of the input signal is the analog signal.

3. The power is 5W.

4. He needs the single-ended input, not differential input, like LM386.

5. He does not need I2C interface feature for the device.

6. The speaker is used for his design load is 8 Ohms with 3 W.

Thanks,

Best Regards,

  • Hi Mickey,

According to your voltage (8V) and power (5W) spec this comes into the mid-power selection. You could take a look at TPA3113D2.
Perhaps you should add filter at the input of the amplifier that you're currently using to make the PWM signal an analog, cleaner signal. The PWM nature of the signal could be the reason of the noise at the output.

  • Hi Ivan,
    Thanks for your reply.
TPA3113D2 has the differential inputs, LINP/LINN pins and RINP/RINN pins, but the customer does not need the the differential inputs.
He needs the single-ended input, like LM386. Can you recommend another device?

  • Hi Mickey,

Most of the amplifiers have differential inputs, LM386 is differential input (+ and - inputs) although the application use it in single ended mode by grounding the - input (pin 2). You can use TPA3113D2 in single ended input by grounding xINN through a capacitor. You can take a look at Figures 38 and 39 in TPA3113D2 datasheet.
