TLV320ADC3101 EVM questions.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE5816, TLV320ADC3001

Customer is evaluating the TLV320ADC3101EVM board, and has the following questions.

1)  When using the AGC display, what is 0dB referenced to is it 1mVrms.

2)  Can I write recorded data to a file. thanks]

  • Hi, Naser,

    1) 0dB is referenced to the full-scale voltage. So, it would be 0.707Vrms for single-ended input and 1.414Vrms for differential input.
    2) You may use an audio software such Audacity to record data in an audio file. It is really useful when using an EVM.

Please let me know if you have additional questions or comments.

  • HI Luis: Thanks. Customer was asking about the 0dB scaling because he had recently evaluated the AFE5816 Eval Brd and TI GUI, with that said -----  0dB was equal to 1mV RMS when he runs the TLV320 eval Brd., with mic bias off and no input, the ADC output with 0dB gain, the display shows ~-60dB, the TLV320ADC3001 data sheet Fig.8 shows a line input to ADC FFT plot ~ -120dB ?

Also, does each input channel utilize some kind of a sample & hold or track & hold circuit so all channels are captured simultaneously

    Regards,

    Naser

  • Hi, Naser,

The figure 8 describes the behavior of the ADC FFT plot when a 1kHz input signal is applied at the line input. You may see that there will be some harmonics around -100dB and the rest of frequencies are around -120dB.

The ADC uses a delta-sigma ADC to work. Please take a look at the following documents for details:
