TAS5760 PVDD Capacitor

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5760XXEVM

Dear Sir,

Our customer would like to use smaller PVDD Capacitor.

Are there any requirements about impedance and acceptable ripple of PVDD?

If the impedance is lower, can they use smaller capacitor?

Regards,

Koide

  • Hi, Koide,

The bulk capacitor selection in PVDD depends on the quality of the power supply used in the End-system. For noisy power supplies, large bulk capacitor is required. If the power supply in the system is stable, you might use smaller capacitor. Maybe 2×22µF SMT caps per side as in the TAS5754MEVM could be used. The High frequency decoupling capacitor should be kept to avoid problems related to the ringing in the outputs of the amplifier.

  • Hi Diego,

Thanks for the advice. As you mentioned, there are 2 x 22uF capacitors on TAS5754MEVM. In case of TAS5760xxEVM, there is a 470uF cap. Where does the difference come from? Power supply stability? Could you please let me know ripple voltage assumption for each EVM?
