TAS5102 How to set GAIN

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5102, TAS5102EVM, TAS5086, TAS5751M, TAS5733L

Hi Team,

The customer is using TAS5102.

Q1: In the Figure 1 of the datasheet, Gain is 3dB. The customer would like to know how to set up to the GAIN value for TAS5102 and how to set up to 3dB for the GAIN in  the Figure 1 of the datasheet.

Q2: Does the GAIN be set up through the GUI software of the TAS5102EVM?

Q3: If the GAIN value has been set up to complete, how to check if the the GAIN value be set up successfully?

  • HI, Mickey,

The TAS5102 is a power stage, so the gain is configured within the PWM modulator. The TAS5102EVM uses a TAS5086 PWM modulator in the controller board, the GUI can be used to change the gain in the TAS5086.

Do you know why this device is being used?, we have digital input Class-D amplifiers that are equivalent in functionality to the TAS5102+modulator. Our newer parts have better performance, cost and end-system integration.

  • Hi Digeo,
    Thank you for your reply.
Q1: You mean the gain is configured within the PWM modulator and the GUI software of the TAS5102EVM has the PWM modulator ,
so the customer can use the GUI software of the TAS5102EVM to configure the gain value, right?

Q2: If my understanding is correct, can the gain value be configure through the register 0x23 ? Or any other register?
If the GAIN value has been set up to complete in the the GUI software , how to check if the the GAIN value be set up successfully?

Q3: I don't know why this device is being used now. Which device has digital input Class-D amplifiers that are equivalent in functionality to

the TAS5102+modulator? Would you recommend the device?

  • Hi, Mickey,

    Please refer to below:

Q1: Yes, The gain/volume can be configured in the modulator with the GUI.

Q2: The gain in the modulator is configured with Volume registers, register 0x23 corresponds to Biquad 1.

Q3: This depends on the end-application. If the modulator is used with one TAS5102 in Stereo or Mono system, a good replacement will be the TAS5751M or TAS5733L for lower power applications. If you can provide more information about the end application, I can help recommending the best solution.
