Hello all,

I have  audio converter requirements for medical device. It will be used in the life-saving medical device. So I am looking for reliable chip ( First time working in the audio  convertor selection )

         I need to choose the audio converter for speech synthesis (To provide auditory commands ) and tone generation (beep or continuous tone)  (Mono Speaker output is prefered). I have checked the TLV320AIC3107  and TLV320AIC3120. 

So I need suggestion to select the best audio converter with Mono Speaker output  (In stereo,One channel will used )

suggest If the any alternative audio converter parts

Kindly share the suggestion

    Welcome to E2E and thank you for your interest in our products!

    You would require an audio converter with miniDSP to have the requirements that you need. The TLV320AIC3120 would be a good choice. However, if you require more processing capabilities, the TLV320AIC3262 and TLV320AIC3268 would be other possible options.

    I had a glance of  TLV320AIC3120    TLV320AIC3262  TLV320AIC3268.

    AIC3262 and AIC3268 has the same features as AIC3120 and also include more interface feature (dual speaker output, Multiple analog interface). But the DAC processing/ Audio interface path are same as AIC3120, I have the understanding that AIC3120 is sufficient for auditory command generation and beep generation.

    In addition to the standard set of DAC features the TLV320AIC3268 also offers the following special features:
    • Digital auto mute
    • Adaptive coefficient update mode

    In addition to the standard set of DAC features the TLV320AIC3262 also offers the following special features:
    • Built in sine wave generation (beep generator)
    • Digital auto mute
    • Adaptive coefficient update mode
    • Asynchronous Sample Rate Conversion

    Kindly suggest if any key feature of AIC3262 and AIC3268 has more advantageous than AIC3120 for auditory command generation , beep generation and reliable functionality.

    Could you give more details about the auditory command generation function? Is it something related with voice command? In this case, you would require an external DSP with more capabilities to handle this.

    The beep generation is the same for all these codecs. Additional feature would be the ADC and DAC SNR level (101dB - DAC and 93dB ADC for AIC3262; 105dB - DAC and 95dB -ADC for AIC3268).

    Yes Voice command.  Few Voice command (Male /Female Voice) are listed below

    1. REPLACE THE BATTERY IMMEDIATELY.
    2. PADS SHOULD NOT BE TOUCHING THE PATIENT’S CLOTHING.
    3. PRESS THE PADS FIRMLYTO THE SKIN.
    4. MAKESURE THE PADS HAVE BEEN REMOVED.
    5. PADS SHOULD NOT BE TOUCHING THE PATIENT’S CLOTHING.
    6. ATTACH PADS
    7. CHECK PULSE

    In this case, you would require an external DSP with more capabilities to handle this.

    why external DSP is required?

    Now looking more into TLV320AIC3120 because application(medical device) need to play voice commands, adjustable volume and generating beep (beep for duration of maximum length  120 seconds  and minimum length  50 milliSeconds) without lag  (beep can be used for readiness or state change).   So TLV320AIC3262 and TLV320AIC3268  may not be required for this application is the consideration.

    Please correct me if I am wrong.

    TLV320AIC3120 Audio Codec will be interfaced with microcontroller and the voice command placed in the SD card. Microcontroller fetch the voice command from SD card and then feed to TLV320AIC3120

    to paly the voice command.

    Hi, Dinesh,

    The TLV320AIC3120 is able to play audio files from a device with I2S interface. So, the microcontoller of your choice should be able to send audio via I2S. Additionally, the TLV320AIC3120 can generate sine wavefoms to generate a determined beep. If you don't require additional algorithms from the audio codec, then this device should be fine for your application.

    TLV320DAC3120 same as TLV320AIC3120(similarity is miniDSP,DAC,Monooutput, Beep generator, etc..) except the microphone,line i/p.

    I have the requirement only for generating voice command and beep. So I feel that TLV320DAC3120 can support.

    Please share your suggestions.

    Hi, Dinesh,

    The TLV320DAC3120 is able to generate a voice command sending it via I2S. The beep can be generated by the internal beep generator. This is a sine-wave generator which frequency and length can be configured via I2C.
