TPA3131D2: the sequence about MUTE and SDZ

Part Number: TPA3131D2

Hi all

Would you mind if we asku TPA3131D2?

TPA3131D2 has MUTE and SDZ pin to brake output(Cut-off output).

Does TPA3131D2 have any sequences or recommendation between MUTE and SDZ?
Because, our customer would like to control these pins using each circuit.
So, if you have some attention of turning on sequence in case of power off and normal operation, could you give us?

We need your help.

Kind regards,

Hirotaka Matsumoto

  • Hi team

Could you give us the reply?

    Kind regards,

    Hirotaka Matsumoto

  • Hi Hirotaka-san,

The useage of SDZ and MUTE anr shown in the following figure. This is also descripbed in 7.3.10 in spec, please look in to it.

  • Hirotaka-san,

Sorry for missing the picture. Please refer to the following picture which shows the usage of the MUTE and timeing requirement of SDZ.

    Thank you for your update!
We could find what you indicated.
However, we guess that this sequence is for "Short-Circuit Protection and Automatic Recovery Feature".
We would like to know sequence between MUTE and SDZ in case of normal operation. And in case of normal operation, our customer would like to cut off output using MUTE(High) or SDZ(Low).

Or despite of "normal operation" and "Short-Circuit Protection and Automatic Recovery Feature", should we turn on MUTE-pin before SDZ turning off?
(After starting of turning on MUTE(over 1.4sec), SDZ pin has to turning off SDZ, right?)

    We need your help.

    Kind regards,

    Hirotaka Matsumoto

  • Hi Matsumoto-san,
Let me describe the usage of MUTE and SDZ in that picture. When MUTE is pulled to High and SDZ is pulled down to Low, TPA3131 works in normal mode. When a fault is reported, the pin FAULTZ is pulled down to Low. The inverted FALUSE is assigned to MUTE pin. Then MUTE pin is pulled to High, the output is in high Z mode and TPA3131 is protected in this way. When pull the pin SDZ up to High by uP, the Fault latch is cleared. And the amplifier works in normal mode again. About the useage of TPA3131, you can also refer to EVM design at www.ti.com/.../slou374.pdf.

    Thank you for your reply.

We are sorry that we can not understand.
    If we would like to disable/enable of outputs from μP(contoroller), we guess that we can have two ways as follows;
-MUTE pin HIGH : outputs OFF (high-Z)
-SDZ pin Low : Shutdown logic input for audio amp,  outputs Hi-Z
    Is our recognition correct?

And then, which should we use MUTE pin or SDZ for outputs OFF.

    Kind regards,

    Hirotaka Matsumoto

  •  Hi Hirotaka-san,

Yes, your understanding is right, both can be used for disabling the output. The following is the difference between them.

It takes 10ms for SDZ to turn off the output. But MUTE disables output much faster, less than 2ms.

If automatic recovery from FAULT latch is desired, connect the FAULTZ pin directly to the SDZ pin. Cycling SDZ can clear the FAULT in this way.

You can choose the right one according to your application.
