PCM4220: Connect 3 x PCM4220 to the AM3358 processor on the beaglebone

I want 6 channels of very high SNR audio input channels to a beaglebone.

Can i use 3 PCM4220 devices and input into the AM3358 processor McASP module?

How do I connect them (parallel/series etc)?

Hi, Luke,

Yes, you can use three PCM4220 to drive six audio channels using TDM mode, this mode allows the use of up to four devices and eight channels. All the PCMs should be sharing the audio data bus.

Hiya,

Has the PCM4222 the same functionality as the PCM4220?

Can I use the PCM4222 Eval Module to create a design for the PCM4220?

So my plan is to test with the PCM4222EVM then use the PCM-4220 chip as it is a bit cheaper but there is no evaluation board for it.

Just checked the PCM4222EVM datasheet - yes it can be used to do that!!

Hi, Luke,

Yes, as you mention the PCM4220 can be evaluated using the PCM4222EVM board. The only required consideration would be to set DSDMODE, MODEN and DSDEN controls in SW1 to ‘LO’ to connect the ground pins of the PCM4220 to GND.
