TLV320DAC3100: For TLV320DAC3100, what is "DAC MAC"?

Part Number: TLV320DAC3100

In the TLV320DAC3100 datasheet, Table 7-19 - Clock Distribution Tree, it shows a line labelled "To DAC MAC" after the NDAC divider and before the MDAC divider. I can find no other mention of a DAC MAC anywhere in the datasheet.

How does one decide, between NDAC and MDAC what values to assign to each?  The DAC_MOD_CLK is CODEC_CLKIN / (NDAC * MDAC), so between NDAC and MDAC, which value should be set to what?. I currently have NDAC set to 8, MDAC set to 2 and DOSR set to 16. This amounts to a total Divider ratio of 256 which is correct for my 11.2896MHz MLCK in and for a BITCLK of 1.4112MHz and LRCLK of 44100 Hz.

Basically I am asking, between NDAC and MDAC, how does one decide their values and where does this magical "To DAC MAC" go?.

Thanks.

  • Hi, David,

The DAC MAC also called DAC_MAC_CLK is used for DAC processing with the DAC_CLK. In order to determine which value select as NDAC and MDAC, I would recommend to take a look at the Maximum TLV320DAC3100 Clock Frequencies ( www.ti.com/.../tlv320dac3100.pdf ). You need to verify that all the frequency ranges are respected.

Also, I noticed that the DOSR value is set at 16. We actually recommend to configure the DOSR value in multiples of 64. This value allows a better audio quality.
