TPA6120A2: Help needed in designing a high power bridged or parallel headphone amplifier

Part Number: TPA6120A2

Hello!

I am designing a high fidelity player and recorder. As my design is pretty complex, containing several BGA processors, eMMC and being a 8 layers pcb, any additional design iteration will be time and budget consuming, so, some help from you will be greatly appreciated.

The  problem will be: I am using 3 PCM 1794 channels for L and 3 channels for R in parallel, so, the Rout seen by the OPA413x will be 806 Ohm : 3. I need to use 2 TPA6120A2 bridged or parallel, one as a L channel and the other one as a R channel amplifiers, and I would like to know what gain settings / R values would you suggest for such aconfigurations in 4 versions: 32Ohm, 150 Ohm, 300 Ohm and 600 Ohm loads. I insist in having one TPA6120A2 per channel, either bridged or parallel, as I want more power than a single chip in stereo  mode could deliver. What should I expect be the maximum power that I could get from the TPA6120A2 in these configurations?

Thank you so much for your help!

  • Hi Chris,

The gain setting resistor values should be adjusted according to your application requirements.
With the HSOP EVM board, with gain = 2 V/V in non-inverting configuration, you could expect the following values in a parallel output connection:

    Load Vin(RMS) Vout(RMS) Pout(mW) THD+N
    32 1 2.353 173.3 0.00345
    150 1 3.442 79 0.00028
    300 1 3.672 44.94 0.00021
    600 1 3.811 24.2 0.00019

What would be the output voltage requirement? What would be the input voltage?
