PCM2707C: Why does headphone jack stop working when pin 9 is pulled down?

Part Number: PCM2707C

Posting on behalf of customer:

"Why does the PCM2707 turn off the headphone jack when I2S output mode is enabled?  On the PCM2707C when you pull up pin 9 (FSEL) you are in SP/DIF mode and the headphone jack works on the demo board. When you pull down pin 9 (FSEL) you are in I2S mode and the headphone jack stops working."

I don't see anything about this in the datasheet, could you help me understand the internal functionality and if there's anything that can be done to keep the headphone jack active with I2S output mode enabled?

Thanks,

Jason

  • Hi, Jason,

The PCM2707C has only one output from the USB audio device perspective. When pin 9 (FSEL) of the PCM2707C is set as '0', the I²S interface will be used as the output of the device. In this operation mode, the output from the USB interface will be streamed through DOUT (pin17) from the I²S interface. The input of the I²S interface (DIN, pin 4) will serve as the DAC input, the source for the headphone output.
