Audio EVM Selection and Audio IC Selection

Hi team,

The customer needs to develop the IP voice telephone. He would like to select an audio EVM board and an audio IC.

1. For the EVM board, here are the specific requirements:

a).  There are two products to develop for the customer. One is the audio signal is input through the mic and the audio signal is output through the speaker.

Another is the input audio signal and the output audio signal are connected to the analog audio data for four-wire telephone.

The board can handle the audio input and output, support for analog-to-digital audio conversion.

b). The board can run the Windows system or the Linux system.

c). The board should have the ethernet interface.

d). The board can  be connected an external key to input.

e). The board should have this audio IC that the the signal input pins can be configured high and low voltage level.

f). Ambient temperature:-40C~85C.

For the audio IC,  another product is the input audio signal and the output audio signal are connected to the analog audio data for four-wire telephone.

The customer would like to select  an analog-to-digital audio conversion IC for the four-wire telephone.

Can you recommend a suitable EVM board and an suitable audio ADC IC?

  • Hi, Mickey,

In order to give a proper recommendation, we need more information about the audio device requirements from customer. In general, our Audio Codecs and ADCs have an available EVM that meets almost all the requirements you listed, with exception of Ethernet connection and external key input. The operating temperature range depends on the IC under evaluation. Could you please ask customer for more information about the audio IC requirements?, like number of inputs, digital channels, power supplies, number of analog outputs, speaker power, etc?. Sharing a block diagram would help us as well.

    thanks and Best Regards,

  • Hi Diego,

    Thank you for your reply.

For the audio ADC, the customer needs 1 input digital channel and 1 output digital channel, 2 input analog channels and 2 output analog

channels. The analog output channels are used to connected the four-wire telephone signals.
The ambient temperature should be-40C~85C. There are not other special requirements for the audio ADC.

Can you recommend a suitable audio ADC IC?
  • Hi, Mickey,

Thanks for the updates. From your comments it seems that a good solution for the ADC would be the PCM186x family of audio ADCs. This device is able to operate in the specified temperature, however, it doesn't have an analog output, so in this case you might need a DAC that can be used directly with telephone signals.
