Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM1792A, DSD1792, PCM1794, PCM1792
Hi,
I'm a 'newbie' in this area; currently developing hardware for (and software to control) a PCM1792A.
A few questions arose in my mind.
1: Why is the DSD schematic different from the PCM schematic ? - isn't DSD just an input format?
2: What's the max. available sampling frequency for DSD; 200kHz ?
3: If using TDMCA and multiple daisy-chained DACs, can one archieve 192kHz with - say - 8 DACs, or is the max. freq. approx. 49kHz ?
4: Which sounds the best; DSD mode or PCM mode ?
5: When looking at the datasheets for PCM1792, PCM1794 and DSD1792, I do not see any big difference (except from connections and pin names). Are there any 'major' differences I should be aware of / haven't noticed ?
6: The sampling frequencies; do they have to be certain values, or can I put out a 'custom' frequency like 50072Hz ?
7: Which ADC can be used for sampling 192kHz (some people told me that it's actually only possible to sample 96kHz with a 192kHz ADC) ?
8: Looking at page 18, I see the data formats; there's a lot of "unused" space between bit 24 and bit 1. Can I actually output 32 bits to be "forward compatible" with a 32-bit DAC ?
(9: Why is it called a TV set, when there's only one ?)
