TPA3128D2: Schematic Review

Hi,

Please find the attached pdf of schematic of TPA3128D2 IC with microcontroller and GSM, please check the connections.

 

Here we are using:

  1. Quicktel GSM module
  2. 12VDC SMPS power supply

 

We have following queries at the time of designing:

  1. Where we connect MODSEL Pin.
  2. As per datasheet, This IC provides 2x30W Audio output, So what is the current require by the IC?
  3. Is it necessary to connect Heat sink for the device TPA3128D2???

    Hi Atul,
    Thanks for asking questions in E2E. MODSEL pin is used to select the BD modulation or low idle-loss mode. Please refer to this document (section 2) for the modulation mode explanation. www.ti.com/.../sloa238.pdf
    I reviewed your SCH, you are using PBTL mode. So you want 30W output, not 2*30W, right?
    If you want to output 30W power with 12V PVCC, 8 ohm load is too high. I think you can use 2 ohm speaker. I did an experiment with 12V PVCC and 2ohm load, the current on PVCC is around 2.8A (please reserve some margin for this) when outputing 30W power in PBTL mode. In this experiment, there is no need to use a heat sink.
