TPA3007D1: circuit design question

Part Number: TPA3007D1

Hi,

I'm using a TPA3007D1 for a mono output audio amplifier. I followed the TPA3007D1EVM schematic to constructed the amplifier circuit. After power up the circuit, I connect the input to an audio source. while plug in the IN+ and IN- to an audio source, the static noise fried the chip.

I modified the circuit a little by adding 400mA fuse to the supply source (Vcc); tied In- to ground; and added a 47K pulled down resistor to IN+. This would help to eliminate the floating input signal at power up.

The amplified circuit works normal but sometimes if I cycle the main power, there some noise on the speaker and it break the fuse. (note: the shutdown is not used. it always pulled up to Vcc using 120K)

Any recommend how large the fuse I can use without burn out the chip. The datasheet show typical supply current is 0.42A but I already use .4A fuse but still got burn out frequently.

Thanks.

  • Hi Le,

Thanks for asking questions in E2E. The typical power supply current 0.42A in the datasheet is under the condition of Vcc=18V/Pout=6.5W/Load=8ohm. So if your case is not the same, the current could also be different. You need to measure the peak current in power supply in your application, and use an appropriate fuse.

In addition, TPA3007D1 is a high-performance CMOS audio amplifier that requires adequate power supply decoupling to ensure good performance. Place 1uF low ESR ceramic capacitor as close as possible to the device to mitigate the high frequency transients and 10uF aluminum electrolytic capacitor near the device to filter the lower-frequency noise.

    Best regards,
