TLV320AIC3120: Recording details requested

Part Number: TLV320AIC3120

Hello,

I am trying to use this codec as temporary audio data storage, so that audio can be sent via GSM and then loaded into a much larger external flash.  My questions relate to this.

I need more detail on recording than what is provided in the data sheet.  First of all, how many seconds can be recorded into this device’s internal memory?  I am certain that this depends upon the sample rate and audio quality selected, so please also tell me how much memory is available for this.

Secondly, once an audio clip is recorded, is it retained until it is erased, or does new audio data overwrite it?

Last of all, I have the EVM-U module for this part. Can I get instructions on how to record through the CodecControl software?

Thank you,

Noah

  • Hi, Noah,

Welcome to E2E and thank you for your interest in our products!

The TLV320AIC3120 and all our audio converters are only able to send the sampled data via I2S. A sample is stored in the internal buffer until the next data is sampled. So, it takes 1/fs in the buffer.

The CodecControl software has a initialization code that automatically configures the EVM-U module for recording and playback. You may access to this code in the View Menu.

  • Luis,

I'm afraid I do not fully understand the storage capacity of this codec. What is the longest message that could be stored? Could several minutes worth of audio data be stored? If not, could an external memory chip be used with the codec?

    Thank you,

    Noah
  • Hi, Noah,

Our audio converters don't have capability to store multiple samples. Basically, once the sample is taken, it is sent via I2S to an external device, which can be used to store the data in an external memory.
