PCM5102A-Q1: Interface to DAC with microcontroller that does not have I2S

Hello,

I am trying to interface the PCM5102A to a Cortex M7 microcontroller but this controller does not have an I2S bus. Is there a way to get the DAC to work properly without using I2S?

Welcome to E2E, Thanks for your interest in our products!.

The PCM5104-Q1 is an slave-only Audio DAC that accepts I²S digital audio data. To operate the device properly, it is necessary to provide valid I²S signals, otherwise the device will not work.

Thank you for the reply. My micro does not have an I2S bus. Is there a way to simulate this using SPI or UART?

Hi, Erick,

We have an app note regarding general SPI to I²S conversion for interfacing one of our codecs to a µC with SPI interface, however, it is recommended to use a I²S interface with our devices. Please refer to SLAA449A App note as reference.
