PCM9211EVM-U: Changing default Windows 10 output to PCM9211EVM.

I'm designing with the PCM9211, but I'd like to try and re-use the PCM9211EVM to test further.   Is there a way to get 96kHz audio out from the host computer via the eval board?

My application works well with 44.1 and 48kHz, but I'm struggling to find a 96kHz source.   I know the customers will struggle too, but it's a feature which constantly gets asked for as a rival has this.

So, how do I get 96kHz audio as a source?

    Hi, John,

    The PCM9211EVM-U features a TAS1020B as the USB-Audio interface. The maximum allowed sampling rate of the Evaluation module is limited to the TAS1020B capabilities, that unfortunately are limited to a maximum sample rate of 48KHz. 96KHz sample rate operation is not supported.

    Hi Diego,

    thanks for the reply. I thought the TAX1020B could do 16Mbps, and since 48kHz audio would be 3Mbps and 96kHz 6Mbps that it would be possible?

    Do you have an alternative Eval board that I could get the desired 96kHz audio output from? I'm struggling to find anything!

    Hi, John,

    Unfortunately that is not possible with TAS1020B as I²S interface in the part supports only 48KHz. The TAS1020B is broadly used in almost all of our EVMs so currently we don't have a board compatible with USB-96KHz operation.

    The EVM should be compatible to operate the part in 96KHz by using an external audio interface, like PSIA interface of  an Audio Precision Audio analyzer.

    What audio ADC evaluation board would output I2S in 96kHz?   Sadly, my audio analyser doesn't support this, so this may be an option.   Just need to test for compatibility and that's all.

    HI, John,

    We have a couple ADCs in our portfolio that are able to operate at that sampling rate, perhaps you could consider using the PCM1860EVM, this ADC can be configured as a I²S Master at 96KHz sample rate very easily.

    Hi, John,

    As a matter of fact, the PCM1860 features a PCM9211 for the optical S/PDIF interface, so you might be able to evaluate this device in the ADC EVM.

    Hi Diego,

    I'm nearing the end of evaluating the PCM9211 and it does what I need it to do. The only question that remains is if the host micro is quick enough processing the I2S in and out. All the indications are that it is, based upon how quick I can process 48kHz, but I just need to confirm it.

    The PCM9211 is being designed in.

    Hi Diego,

    I think I'm being a little bit silly! I've got the PCM9211EVM, it's got analog inputs, and I could put a signal in there.

    What I really need to know is how to configure the PCM9211EVM to create the 96kHz optical signal! Then I can pass it in to my own hardware (which technically doesn't use the analogue input, but has footprints there just in case). Any tips for that?

    I've tested this just now and I got 44.1/48kHz audio out but crackly bad audio from the PCM9211EVM at 96kHz.   The amplifier I have detected PCM at 96kHz, but it was terrible output going direct from the optical output to the amp.
