TPA2010D1 Shutdown question

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA2010D1

It is not clear for me, which function is realized with the shutdown pin. In the functional block diagram this pin is connected to the startup logic, in all other diagrams it is connected to the BIAS circuitry.

Nevertheless, it is always shown as an open input with an internal PullDown resistor. For my understanding, this disables the complete function. Am I right, that an external PullUp is required to wake up the device?

  • Hi!

The SHUTDOWN-z terminal controls virtually every block in the IC. It would get too complicated if we attempted to accurately represent it.

Just think of it as a master switch for the whole device. When SHUTDOWN-z is pulled low, the entire IC will be in a low-power sleep mode, drawing less than 2 uA from your battery/supply.

You are correct, if you want the part to be amplifying, you need to pull SHUTDOWN-z high. Most customers tie this to a logic output so they can turn the amplifier on and off as needed. If you don't care, then you can just pull it high.

We put an internal pull-down at several customers' requests -- when the system is powering up, they wanted to make sure the TPA2010D1 was disabled as the codec and the rest of their system was powering up.

I hope this clarifies the situation for you. If not, let me know. Otherwise, if you could mark this post "Verified Answer" to let me know you're happy, I'd appreciate it.
