TPA6100A2: BTL connection

Part Number: TPA6100A2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM4950

Hello,

Our customer plans to use TPA6100A2 at BTL mode.

This headphone amp is only available from 1.6V power supply voltage but want to remove DC locking cap at SE mode.

On TPA6100A2 datasheet there is not application circuit for BTL connection, however we can find typical connection in LM4950 datasheet as below.

In this case external resistor values are

AMP A: Ri=10kohm, Rf=68kohm

AMP B: Ri=10kohm, Rf=10kohm

Do you see any concern of this configuration?

Regards,

Mochizuki

  • Hi Mochizuki-san,

I think this configuration should work. You could perform some testing prior to implementation to see if performance is good enough.
I think you could need to place the input capacitor on the second amplifier too (between Vo1 and Ri from IN2-).
What are the customer requirements for this amplifier? Perhaps we can recommend another Class-AB amp that is typically used in BTL output configuration.

  • Hi Ivan-san,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

There are competitors devices in the market which have Vdd(mini)<2.5V, Variable voltage gain>16.7dB, 1ch BTL mode, output power>25mW @32ohm and pop less operation.

TPA6100A2 is old device but good at low voltage operation and external feedback network in this particular requirements.
