From customer below:
We use TI audio amp TPA2000D1PWRG4 (ZOLL part number 704958) on a system board.
We tested VCC_5V0 power up ramp at > 65°C with “short off time” of less than 1.5 seconds between power cycles of VCC_5V0. In this test, we get overshoot up to 5.8V for less than 1 ms. If there is longer time between power cycles, there is no overshoot on VCC_5V0. If the board temperature is less than 55°C, there is no overshoot. Our product spec is up to 50°C outside of the enclosure, which is 65°C to 70°C (worse case) on the board inside the enclosure. In actual use of the product, there is very small chance that the board will be hotter than 55°C at the same time that the user turns the system ON-OFF-ON with less than a few seconds of OFF time to cause the VCC_5V0 overshoot situation.
The TPA2000D1PWRG4 data sheet specs 5.5V (max) for BOTH the “recommended operating temperature” as well as the “absolute maximum temperature”. Most components with 5.5V (max) “recommended operating temp” will spec the “absolute maximum temp” at 6V (max).
Please find out from TI if overshoot between 5.5V to 6V (max) for less than 1 ms is acceptable.
