TAS6424Q1EVM: Can I use the EVMBoard as an I2C Master to program several Amps

Hi,

I'm planning to use several TAS6424Q1 to build a multichannel Audioamplifier. I'm in possession of the EVM board and want to use it as a programming tool.

I want to program the EVM board as master and send the controls via "General Call" to the other chips using the "J7 header" (I2C Header). Would that be possible or am I missing something.

Hi Darius,
This can be done but with some limitations. The TAS6424EVM GUI using PPC3 is hardcoded for only one I2C address on the TAS6424-Q1. The I2C address on the EVM is also hard wired for one I2C address. When going to a multi-IC system, the PPC3 and EVMs may not be the best tool due to these limitations.

Thanks, so the way to go would be: Using the EVM and PPC to program the Chip as desired and extract the code via the I2C monitor, modify the adress and get it on an EEPROM? I'm sorry I'm fairly new to the world of IC Communications.

Hi Darius,
The I2C is not that simple. You will need to have a controller to be able to send and receive I2C and to act upon the values that are received. The EVMs are for evaluation only and can be used to develop your controller program.

Yes, thank you. I was looking for a way around creating a controller, but if I got everything right, there is none. So I will try the way you proposed in the reference design.
