LM4673: Amplifier Startup

Part Number: LM4673

I posted in another thread with a similar question, but I was never answered...
https://e2e.ti.com/support/amplifiers/audio_amplifiers/f/6/t/536666

I'm seeing the same issue everyone has with this device.  When the SHDN pin is tied to VDD, sometimes the amp won't properly start up.  The datasheet for this device doesn't mention or recommend any delay for reset coming high after power up even though this seems to solve this problem.

Any ideas why this is happening?  If delaying the SHDN pin is the solution, perhaps it would be prudent to add this to the datasheet eh?

Best,

Trey

  • Hi Trey,

I'm not sure what's going on. But you should follow the given guidelines in the datasheet to get a correct operation.
Unfortunately, this device doesn't have an EVM to make tests about this issue due to it is an old device.
Perhaps you can use our new class D audio amplifiers.

  • Hi Jose,
Exactly. There were no guidelines given in the datasheet on this topic and a TI apps engineer can't even provide guidance. Thats unacceptable in my book. If TI cannot support this product it needs to be NRND'ed.

In any case, thank you for your quick response. Please don't take this as a personal attack.

    Best Regards,
