pcm5142: Pure Path Studio with PCM5142

First, I want to check how to use Pure Path studio with PCM5142.

1. Generating code with Pure path studio about PCM5142

2. Communicating Host controller to PCM5142 the code through I2C/SPI

Is that right?

Second, actually I'm considering DSP C5545 for Host controller.

Is it suitable or not? and is there some reference design for connection between PCM5142 and C5545?

Yes. I want to use C5545 for Host Controller.
I want to program PCM5142 by using C5545 through I2C.
Is it ok?

AIC3262 has DRC2, AGC2 functions in PPS.

and PCM5142 has DRC, AGC funtions.

Is there some performance differences between DRC2 and DRC ?

To my knowledge the Dynamic Range Compression (DRC) function is to adjust the gain and is implemented the same way in both devices. I' m not sure about differences in performance.

Hi. I have one more question.

When I want to change component's parameter during runtime, what should I do?

Actually, I read many forums, and they told me that I2C memory tool could be used for EVM boards to change coefficients

But, I couldn't fine for non EVM boards.

To sum up, I'm going to use PCM5142. and it is not EVM board. Also I want to change component's parameters such as coefficients for filter.

Is there some good way?

The C5545 DSP should be an acceptable pairing with the PCM5142, though a specific reference design does not currently exist for these together.

The PCM5142 control registers can be accessed by I2C or SPI from any platform capable of generating the signals. As you would like to use the C5545 DSP, I think you should just use one of the available SPI or I2C interfaces to access the registers during runtime.

To change filter coefficient, I am going to use EEPROM to save all code.

Or other solutions?

Actually, I want to give a variety of options to users about EQ.

To change EQ gain, Do I save all code(register value) in EEPROM?

Or can I save some value and Can I control this n DAC(PCM5142) or miniDSP?

Hi Minkyo,

You can write to some or all of the coefficients as desired. An EEPROM is acceptable, but if you adequate non-volatile memory in your DSP you could hard code some configuration values.

Hi Paul,

I read some PDF(slaa425d) and forum.

They said that Audio codec could be modified during runtime on the fly

is it applied to PCM5142?

If it is, I'm going to save a variety of options such as volumes value, EQ gain, filter coefficient etc. in eeprom.

and depending on situation, DSP send the value to DAC through I2C during runtime.

Is it possible?
