TLV320AIC3107EVM-K: Cannot connect using EVM tool.

Part Number: TLV320AIC3107EVM-K
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV320AIC3107

Hi,

I have been trying to get started with the EVM but am having trouble getting connected. I receive "Connect a USB Cable to EVM" when I launch the software. I have verified the position of the jumpers and switches on both boards (although I didn't see any indication of what to do with the SW1 and SW3 of USB board). I then followed the steps to revive a USB Audio EVM (e2e.ti.com/.../2790.how-to-revive-a-usb-audio-evm).

Currently diodes D2-5, and D7, D8 are lit when connected (D6 is not lit) and Windows (Win10) recognizes the EVM as two Audio inputs/output in device manager. The driver is provided by Microsoft (version 10.0.14393.0), and will not install drivers from NI-VISA or those provided by TI over these.

I'm not sure what to do if windows recognizes the device, the device itself is reading connected, but the EVM software won't connect. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

  • Hi, Steve,

The problem could be related to the driver used, please try installing the latest  NI-VISA drivers and also use the Windows 7 driver for the USBMODEVM.

  • Diego,

Perhaps I should be more clear. Windows never gives me an option to select a driver (step 6 here: e2e.ti.com/.../2790.how-to-revive-a-usb-audio-evm). If at any point I try to point it to a driver, it tells me that what it has is the most up-to-date version (regardless of the NI or Win7 driver). During the rewrite process (step 13) the device shows as a USB controller until writing the .bin file where it shows up as a audio device. I have tried pointing using the NI and TI drivers at both points in the process with no luck.

  • Steve,

Thanks for the feedback. The NI driver should be installed as well, probably the SLAA388 app note could be useful to check if your EVM is being recognized correctly.

Another thing to mention is that the "how to revive a usb audio evm" wiki page is relevant only for the devices mentioned in the top page, the TLV320AIC3107 requires a different .bin file, please refer to this post to find it.

  • Diego,

So I came across that post, but I receive an error when I try to use that bin file. The error is exactly what shows in step 7 followed by another pop-up which reads "GetState call failed. GetLastError = 6". I have tried this several times. Just for good measure, I confirmed that it is still occurring and still doesn't allow me to use the software.

It seems likely now that the firmware is the issue... I'm not sure why my device does not take that .bin file while it takes the other one. However I tried the drivers as well and got "The third-party INF does not contain digital signature information" when pointing windows to the folder with the drivers from NI and TI. Windows can't find anything on its own.

  • Hello,

Just wanted to see if anyone had any more ideas. If not I will have to assume that the chip just cannot be programmed and will return the EVM as defective.
