TLV320DAC3100: TLV320DAC3100

Part Number: TLV320DAC3100
We are debugging a issue noticed  from our manufacturing facility. Many boards from our recent build are failing at audio test station.
From the initial testing we found that the audio output from our DAC device (HPL/HPL of TLV320DAC3100) is delayed by 80 to 100ms and we are losing audio output for this period. Ie, the initial 100ms of audio is being lost from playback.
The good boards starts audio output 100ms earlier than bad boards for same input signal and there is no audio signal lost. These are passing at the audio test.
We are using same settings for DAC configuration and we are not sure why this variation seen on output.
It would be great if you could give some suggestions to debug this. Please let us know what are all the settings can cause this behavior..
  • Hi Biju,

What is the sequence you're following to initialize the device?
The delay present in some of the devices is constant? or sometimes delay is present and sometimes not with the same device?
I don't think there is a specific setting that could cause a delay in the device operation. The audio signal is coming from digital or analog input? Are you using Class-D or Headphone output? Is the delay present at both outputs?

  • Hi Ivan,
We are using same initialize as mentioned in datasheet. ie Power rails up, Reset, Clk and I2C commands to initialize registers
The delay present in both good board and bad boards are consistant. In good board the delay is ~300ms (from start of data sclk). On bad board it is ~385ms. But this delay is consistent every time we teste. We tested many times after normal bootup, power cycle, soft reset etc.
The audio is coming from digital input. We are using Headphone output and speaker output is not used.
Today we swapped the DAC and found the this issue follows the DAC. Below are the marking on DAC
    Good Boards: : DAC3100 TI 631 CE40 G4
    Faulty Boards: DAC3100 TI 671 AR10 G4
I am not sure whether something got changed. We didn't notice any other functional issue other than this.
