TLV320AIC3101: TLV320AIC3101

Part Number: TLV320AIC3101
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV320ADC3101

Dear Sir,

Customer would like use aic3101 to execute stereo recording function.

Would you pls advise if it can working?

Front side: 2*analog MEMs MIC (front side width=45mm)

Back side: 1*analog MEMEs MIC (back side width=45mm, front side and back side distance=45mm)

We would using MIC1&3 be a MIC array beamforming-BE LEFT Ch.

And using MIC2&3 be a MIC array beamforming-BE RIGHT Ch.

These 2*MIC array beamforming are stereo recording.

Thanks, Ian.

  • Hi, Ian,

The TLV320AIC3101 should be able to support stereo recording application, and it can be used to connect up to four single-ended MEMs microphones that can be mixed at the input stage before the Stereo-ADC routing. I think that for this application, as each beamforming array is stereo, two codecs might be needed. Could you provide more details of the requirements for the codec?. If the system is not using the DAC portion of the codec, we may be able to recommend an ADC instead.

  • Dear Diego,

About the application of beamforming array, do you mind to share further information about the mic-array placement and the stereo recording performance? I would like to learn what performance TLV320AIC3101 can provide.

If we need 2 codecs for 2 beamforming array and stereo recording, could we use 3 MICs in this use case? Or we need 4 microphone.

    My requirement is listed below.

    Thanks,Ian.

  • Hi, Ian,

The beamforming application is dependent of the algorithm that customer is using, My previous response was more focused on the TLV320AIC3101 capabilities of routing/mixing the mic signals into a stereo output. I don't know if a stereo signal from a single codec would suffice the beamforming algorithm customer is using. Based on the latest drawing, it seems that the requirement is a device capable of taking 3 mic inputs, mix them and stream the digital audio data through I²S, this can be accomplished by the TLV320ADC3101 (NOTE: the start of the thread mentioned the TLV320AIC3101, but for this application the 'ADC3101 might be better as no DAC seems to be required).

  • Dear Diego,
Yes, customer will consider using ADC3101 to execute, If customer need 2 codecs for 2 beamforming array and stereo recording, could I use 3 MICs or 4 MICs to execute?
    Thanks, Ian.
  • Hi, Ian,

As mentioned before, the selection of the number of mics on the beamforming application is relative to customer's algorithm used. I am not very familiar with beamforming algorithms, but probably having 4 mics would offer a better performance at cost of more processing resources.
