RTOS/PCM2912A: May I shut down PCM2912A by external setting to achieve HP mute function?

Part Number: PCM2912A

Tool/software: TI-RTOS

Hi sir

If we shut down PCM2912A by external setting to achieve HP mute function, is this OK? Have any issues possibility?

Thank you for your great support.

  • Hi, Hugo,

The PCM2912A does not have a headphone mute function, so if you want to implement a complete powerdown for mute, then the device will stop working completely, what could represent some issues at the moment of power-up/down as noise artifacts or delays in the playback associated to the device initialization.

This device will mute playback whenever the host device stops sending audio data or the bus enters into idle state, what is the recommended operation mode.

  • Hi Diego sir

    Thanks for your response.

I have another two questions as below.

    1. Since we don't have HP mute pin, may I run command by USB to finish HP mute?

    2. Since I saw when USB bus no data can auto into suspend mode in spec description as below. May I run command by USB to into suspend mode?

  • Hi, Hugo,

The device will stop playing whenever the USB data is stopped, what can be also considered as a mute from the host. As you mention, if the USB bus is idle or has stopped, the device will enter in suspend mode, what will mute the outputs.
