TPA6211A1: TPA6211A1 shutdown is broken

Part Number: TPA6211A1

Hi team,

My customer is using the TPA6211A now. and The shutdown pin is damaged. The schematic is below. We also test the shutdown pin, the voltage is 5.6v.It's weird the pin voltage is higher than the VDD. So we want to check the internal circuit of the TPA6211A and find the broken reason. Thanks.

BR

Frank

  • Hello Frank,

I didn't understand very well, Do they supply 5.6V to the shutdown pin?

  • Hi Jose,

sorry for making some mistakes. The condition is:
1.when they put a higher voltage 5.5v at the +5.0a pin, the pin 1 will rise with the +5.0A pin. When the +5.0A pin voltage higher than 5.6v, the pin 1 will keep 5.5v. i think it's because we have a internal diode from pin 1 to VCC, do you agree?
    2. When the customer do the esd test at the pin 5 and pin 8, the pin1 will be broken and show short circuit to the pin GND. Do you have some ideas about this phenomenon?

    Thanks.

  • Frank,

    1) It could be possible, but I don't know the internal construction of the device. Therefore, the device should work under recommended operating conditions in order to avoid problems. We can't guarantee the normal operating of the device if you don't follow the given guidelines on the amplifier's datasheet.
    2) It is possible that the device is damaged due to this wrong operating condition.

  • Hi Jose,

    Thanks.
could you please help check the internal circuit with the IC designer?

For the esd test, the customer does the 15kv air discharge esd test at the pin V0+ and V0-. So why it broke the PIN1? In our opinion, the VDD should be more easy to be broken. The customer also does the same test with the device they bought one year ago, the chip will not be broken. Does the chip have some difference between with the device now? Thanks.

  • Hi Frank,

I'm going to contact someone in order to help us to review the internal circuit. That could take some time, please be patient.

  • Hi Frank,

I noticed that air discharge voltage is outside the datasheet specifications. Therefore, We can't guarantee the device's normal operation if you don't follow the guidelines given in the datasheet. However, you could use a kind of protection like transient voltage suppressors to avoid this issue.
